Advertising encourages materialism

Many critics claim that advertising has an adverse effect on consumer values by encouraging materialism. It focuses on material things rather than intellectual or spiritual concerns. A major contributor to materialism in advertising is

-seeks to create needs rather than merely showing how a product or service fulfills them
-surrounds consumers with images of material Possesion brings good living
-possession are symbols of sex of status, success, and accomplishment

Many people argue that materlism is acceptable because it stresses hard work and individual effort and a  invitation to posses these items.http://www.becomingminimalist.com/superbowl-ads-mistruth/

The Future of Newspaper

Newspaper remain an important advertising medium, but revenue has significantly declined over the past few years. Newspaper generate most of their advertising revenue from local advertisers, and retailers. News papers account for less than 5 percent on regional and local marketers or their advertising revenue. Newspapers not only have problems of reproduction and quality and rate differentials they also have to battle other types of media. Newspapers are getting outsourced by the Internet. Fewer people are purchasing newspapers and are relaying on media as a primary source.

Network Advertisement

A common way for advertisers to display messages is by purchasing airtime from a television network. Advertisers use network schedules to provide national coverage, regional or local spot to reach markets where additional coverage is desired. The three traditional major networks are NBC,ABC, and CBS. Network advertisements help target specific consumers depending on age group or programs they watch.

It encourages consumers to purchase directly from the manufacturer. Many companies have databases that contain customers names, mail, email addresses, geographic, demographics and psychographics information. They also track  media preferences, purchase patterns, and other customer characteristics to target specific ads to customers. Direct marketing is important because it targets ideal customers. Marketers can connect with customers and build personal relationships. It also allows businesses to test new markets and review sales results.  Not only does it benefit the customers it also helps business target their intended market.
