In the book it discusses how with all of the advertisements that are going in this world it brings about more having more needs than the potential and service of the product. With this idea it brings about materialism. The definition of materialism is the preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values. Most advertisements are revolved around making someone form a need for something. From this link Opree did a study on teens. through her study she found out that the teens who watched more television were more unhappy than teens that didn't. Most advertisements gives a feeling that if you buy a certain product it will make you popular or you will be happy. The things you already have are not enough through advertisements.

Sponsorship can be a good way for a company to get money for ads. It is a form of advertisement that is helpful to companies that don't have enough money on their own and need help. However, there are disadvantages to using sponsorship too. For the company itself, if the team or business they are sponsoring does something in a negative light now that company is associated with that company's downfall. Your company could suffer for another's doing and it would only be by association.

More enhance way of looking at graphics. It is down by glasses or goggle looking objects. When we put these items on an image is created so only we can see. it. Video games are using to enhance game play. Now the player can practically feel as if they are in the game instead of almost feeling like they are there. It can blur the line to what is real and what is fake.

Attracting and Retaining Readers

The amount of people who read newspapers have declined. Newspapers have tried putting in more graphics and colors to attract more readers. Then in an attempt to enforce the importance of newspapers, they have launched an ad campaign of "Smart is the new sexy". They want to remind the general public that getting their news through a good source is better than getting it on social media.

Receptivity

Radio has commercials that are more relevant to a person's life than a cable commercial. In the book it said there were studies done that showed most people thought radio advertising. This link gives key points to think about when making a great radio advertisement. I think all of the points they mentioned are ways people can relate to it. Key #4 is to be authentic. The website mentions that the best commercial is when the speaker is being authentic with the listener instead of just thinking of how to make a profit.

Mood

Mood affects the way people buy or look at a brand or product. My example is a commercial for looking at the way you live your life.

In chapter 9, it explains how one form of advertising that works well is demonstration. Demonstration advertising is used to convince consumers to buy their product by showing them that it works. By showing viewers it works with proof it gives their product creditability.

This link goes over the advantages of having a demonstration form of advertising.

In Chapter 8 it mentions product positioning and how important it is. Advertisers need to know where to put their products and how. From the website I learned how key components to product positioning is customer needs, competitive pressures, and key messages.

In Chapter 6 it mentions creative advertising. When the ad is very creative and out there it will usually stay in a person's mind. For the advertisement or product to stay alive and the one's that people remember are the one's that stand out from the crowd. For example, there was a commercial I watched in my sophomore year in high school and even if I wanted to forget it I can't. The commercial series creeped me out so much that I can never forget it.

I enjoy this commercial because it reminds me of my siblings and I. It is cute and brings back memories when I watch it.

Identifying the target market is crucial for a company or business to make a profit and to keep running. When the target market is identified the company can make a brand of itself and establish what image it wants to portray. Chanel for example has a target market for the rich because their company is about being the best luxury brand. Which is why they can ignore some of the environmental issues other companies want to change like real fur vs. faux fur. They use real fur because when they tried to change they got backlash because no one wants to spend a lot of money for faux fur.

Chapter 4 mentions classical conditioning and how we can manipulate the mind to associate things to a certain reaction and/or recognition. I have noticed that a lot of companies use classical conditioning, especially in marketing. Well known companies like Macy's or Apple have well established their brand. For example, Macy's doesn't have to have display the name of the company instead they can just put a red star. Everyone associates the red star with Macy's. Or in stores the way things are set up plays in how we feel and in turn how we buy. Apple does this very well. Everything about them represents their slogan "think different" well.
